Trimester 1 & 2: Roller Coaster Design
Science Big Idea
Connect the concepts of energy, forces, motion and stability.
Math Big Idea
Graph relationships and interpret unit rate. Investigate patterns of association in bivariate data.
Students have taken on the role of Roller Coaster Designers. They will analyze height and reach data to determine if one particular roller coaster is safe for all riders, even very tall ones. Students will also investigate roller coaster design around the world and collect data about speed, design, and safety. Eventually, students will use this knowledge to create a model roller coaster. Students will present data to show that their roller coasters are fun yet safe.
